“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV)
Once again, it’s the New Year when resolutions for change are discussed everywhere. As Christians, we decide we will read the Bible more, pray more, give more, eat less, spend less, and waste time less. We are determined to make this block of time count! This is commendable and natural because the human spirit longs for renewal. It is how we grow more in the image of Jesus Christ, growing in our identity and freedom as we go.
However, are we following the Lord’s plan or creating our own? He has planned our days to give us futures of hope and success (Jeremiah 29:11), and He knows the challenges and blessings we will encounter along the way. He desires to prepare us so that we will be ready to shine forth His glory when the occasions arise that He has planned for us to participate in.
Romans 8:28 (NIV) emphasizes this by declaring, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” A recent Bible Gateway devotional, Becoming Like Christ by Jason Mitchell of LCBC Church, noted that, “Your past is part of your story, a way that you can show others how Jesus changed your life.”1 You can trust that the Lord’s refinement and timing will work out any wounds or false beliefs to make your testimonies count and reveal Jesus’ glory to others.
This year, realign your resolution-making process. Start by asking the Lord which areas He wants to refine you and then submit to His process. His plans may redesign your life for a more fruitful ministry that pleases Him and blesses others!
