How Much Do You Know About The Ten Commandments?

TEN COMMANDMENTS QUIZ

1.     Where do you find the story of the Ten Commandments in the Bible? Exodus 19-20, Exodus 34

2.     Where was Moses meeting with God to receive the 10 Commandments? Mt. Sinai in the desert. Exodus 19

3.     How long did the people wait for God to talk to them at Mt. Sinai to receive the 10 commandments? God told Moses to have the people consecrate themselves, and He would speak to Moses from a dense cloud before the people on the third day. They would hear God talk to Moses, but were not allowed to come near to see God, or they would die at the base of the mountain. Exodus 19:9-13

4.     How did God appear to Moses? From the thick cloud with thunder and lightning, God descended on Mt. Sinai. The people came to the base of the mountain to hear God when a loud trumpet blast was made. Exodus 19:16-19

5.     Was anyone with Moses and God on the mountain? God had the people held back at the base of Mt. Sinai, but told Moses to bring Aaron, the Priest, up to the top of the mountain. Exodus 19:24 Later, God called the tribal elders and priests to come up to confirm the Covenant for Israel. Exodus 24:9

6.     Why did the Lord give the Israelites the Ten Commandments? He is their Covenant God and brought them to freedom. They confirmed their covenant to have the Lord as their God. Exodus 20:2, Exodus 24:3-8

7.     How many of the Ten Commandments can you name?

a.      You shall have no other gods before me,

b.      You shall not make or worship any images in heaven above, or on the earth beneath, or the waters beneath.

c.       You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

d.      Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Work six days and rest.

e.      Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord is giving you.

f.        You shall not murder,

g.      You shall not commit adultery.

h.      You shall not steal.

i.        You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

j.        You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet his wife, servants, animals, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:3-17

8.     Did God give any other rules or laws to the people? Yes, many detailed laws are found in Exodus 21-23.

9.     Why did Moses spend 40 days on the mountain with God? God gave Moses instructions for creating the Tabernacle and how Israel should worship Him.Exodus 25-Exodus 32

10. Who inscribed the Ten Commandments on the stone tablets? The finger of God inscribed them. Exodus 31:18, Exodus 32:15-16

11.What happened to the Ten Commandments when Moses returned to the camp after his 40 days on the mountain with God? Aaron and the Israelites were celebrating by making a golden calf to worship. Moses became angry, threw down the tablets, and broke them. Exodus 32:19 (The Lord rewrote them and gave them to Moses to place in the Ark of the Covenant. Deuteronomy 10:1-2)
